GO Run for Fun Day

25th Jun 2019

Well done to our fantastic Primary 6 class who planned, organised and delivered an amazing inaugural 'GO Run for Fun' event today.

GO Run for Fun is an international children's fitness campaign, designed to inspire children to become more active. It has been a phenomenal success with over 350,000 children in 3,000 schools across 10 countries taking part since it was launched in August 2013.

It was a very busy day. Primary 6 had planned a variety of activities to ensure that everyone had plenty to keep them entertained. These included basketball, football, tug 'o' war, arts and crafts, a Slime Stall, Hook a Duck and Hit the Can. The event was also greatly enhanced by Conor Mc Hugh providing a hurling/camogie mini-blitz  and by the provision of a great bouncy castle by Donagh Mc Auley. Thank you to you both.

Every class began their run by taking part in a fun warm-up activity, well done to Kayleigh who led the activity tirelessly! After the warm-up, each class completed their run. The Nursery, Primary 1 and Primary 2/3 managed to run well over a kilometre and the remaining classes completed ten laps of the chapel car park to reach their 2 kilometre target. Everybody (pupils, parents, classroom assistants, teachers and governors) gave it their all and, as you will see in the pictures, never stopped smiling! Each class finished their run with a cool down session led by Kiera to ensure that sore muscles are kept to a minimum!

Primary 6 started 'The Daily Mile' a few months ago. The aim was not only to improve their fitness but also concentration levels, behaviour and general wellbeing and this has certainly been the case. They were delighted to share their experience with the whole school community today. They hope that everyone will realise how much fun running is and be inspired to keep it up over the Summer holidays.

The Primary 6 class would like to thank everyone who helped make today a success.
