A Polar Investigation
4th Feb 2022
Primary 1 have been exploring the Polar Regions as part of our topic and finding out about animals keep warm in cold conditions. Some animals have coats of fur and feathers so we investigated the benefits of a coat by trying outside with and without our coats. Other animals have lots of blubber so we used lard to test how it protects our skin from the cold. The children covered one hand in lard and left the other one with nothing! We used ice we’d made earlier in the week to make the water extra cold. The fat kept our hands warmer…but it was still very cold! We were glad it was just our hands and not our whole bodies!
