CAD at St Killian's Technology Department
Today, the P7 pupils went out to St Killian's College to work with Y13/Y14 pupils on the designs of their F1 cars. This gave all the teams an opportunity to see what their clay designs would actually look like in real life. After some quick introductions by Mr Connolly, the pupils were soon at work. Measurements were taken and then it was into the ICT suite where the pupils used 'Solidworks' , a CAD software package that turns prototype clay models into very refined, futuristic-looking race cars. The Y13s/Y14s explained what they were doing to their younger counterparts and even gave some of the P7s the opportunity to have a go themselves. Having completed the chassis, each of the teams then added the finishing touches: wheels, colours and numbers. Within an hour and a half, all the teams had a finished race car and they all looked very impressive.
P7 would like to thank Mr Connolly, all the Y13s and Y14s for giving of their time and going out of their way to help us complete this work - it certainly was a fascinating and very interesting morning!
