Launch of Heritage Hub
Today St John's P7 pupils were part of the official launch of 'The Heritage Hub in Carnlough Town Hall' which took place in 'The Londonderry Hotel'. Speakers included the recently elected Mayor, Lindsay Millar; Jim Mc Greevy (Heritage Lottery Fund) ; Mary Watson (CCA); Graham Thompson (Causeway Coast & Glens' Heritage Trust) and local man, John Mc Neill who was one of the last men to actually work in the Carnlough Limestone Quarry.
Finally, it was P7's turn and they did a presentation on Carnlough Bridge/Archway which they had put together over the past few weeks. Several pupils were able to talk about their ancestors and the experiences they had had working in the quarry. All seventeen pupils took part in the presentation and they spoke very eloquently and with great confidence - they certainly had the full attention of their audience! The boys and girls then finished off by singing a song called 'History' which had been written by Erin Mc Kay. It has to be said that the P7 pupils represented Carnlough, their school, their teachers and themselves very admirably today. Well done everyone!
